Sheri and Matt dive deeper than ever before into the intimate details of our alcoholic marriage. Our relationship started in a very typical manner – we mixed booze and romance and lowered all inhibitions. As life pressure built from work stress and raising children, our intimacy morphed from typical to tragic, and love was squeezed out of our physical connection. Now, in recovery from alcoholism, we are trying to pick up the pieces and restore trust and intimacy from the rubble of our alcoholic marriage.
Looking back is hard. Moving forward is harder still.

Amazing interview with your wife. I have commented on your podcast before because your story is almost exactly like my marriage. As the wife of a “ functioning alcoholic,” I am in the same place as she is and has been. Thirty years married and several tries at sobriety for my husband. We are all in good therapy now and he is working hard but I feel just like your lovey wife.
Thank you both
Thank you for listening and commenting, Lisa! It is crazy how much our stories resonate with each other sometimes. We wish you all the best in recovery (and your husband, too)!
Thank you for sharing your experience. You are both very brave to talk about it like this. While no two situations are ever exactly the same, I can relate to Sheri’s experiences in my own marriage. We are going on 36 years and unfortunately have not admitted the role alcohol played and still plays in our situation. I know this is difficult and painful for both of you but I applaud your honesty and willingness to share. I don’t feel so alone today and thank you both for that.
That you don’t feel so alone today – that’s what this is all about. Thank you for listening and commenting!
